So... what exactly is so new about the new influenza A (H1N1)?

up to now, its still described as a mild flue. weve had mild flues for ages. there are fears that it might mutate into something worse and striek back in winter. but that means it hasnt mutated yet, so its not (yet) a new strain, is it?
