Oregon section of the pacific crest trail?

A friend and i are thinking of backpacking from the southern border of Oregon to just over bridge of the gods and we would like to know if mail food drops are necessary in this section or will we find the local stores to be enough? Also is there long stretches without water? and is the water clean enough to drink untreated?(i generally drink most the water untreated if its running water.)
